Valex Corp is looking for a Machinist to join its team in Round Rock, TX. Below are the duties, qualifications, and some environment information relating to the position.
Shift - 2nd, 3:30pm - 12:00am
Performs set-ups and operates mills, as well as conventional and numerical control mills and lathes. Able to work with rotating machinery. Operates multiple machines including vertical mill and horizontal turning lathe.
Works in highly specialized manufacturing area to include machining. Performs close tolerance machining and assembly with an above average mechanical aptitude. Demonstrates the ability to solve complex manufacturing/product related problems.
Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions on material as template for machining.
Determine tool type and set machines for proper speed, feed, and coolant flow to optimize machine.
Inspect and replace machine consumables and evaluate operation to certify performance is adequate.
Collaborate with engineering to design and use holding fixtures, cutting tools, and attachments to benefit machines.
Parts are highly complex and can include many angled, surfaces, pockets, steps, and related features on different planes.
Comply with safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and regulations.
Work as a team member to aid others in encouraging and maintaining departmental standards including quality and on-time delivery goals.
Perform a variety of complicated tasks, as required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The following criteria describe the physical requirements of the Machinist 1:
Required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch; and talk or hear.
Regularly required to stand. must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
CORE COMPETENCE
Determine tool wear and perform tool changes as well as calculate tool offsets. Typically, must maintain dimensional tolerances less than or equal to +/- .001.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers and decimals, and apply concepts of trigonometry.
Troubleshoot machine code and programs. Programming knowledge is required.
Interpret blueprints, sketches, and drawings to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces.
Working knowledge of print reading (knowledge of GD&T preferred.)
Intermediate PC skills for manufacturing.
Working knowledge of 6S and lean principles.
Ability to communicate effectively with other employees read, write, and comprehend simple instructions.
Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to use various inspections tools: calipers, protractor, height gage, etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma preferred; and/or equivalent.
One year certificate from college, technical school, as in welding, or equivalent work experience preferred but not required.
5+ years of Machining experience.
